SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Categories, Guidelines for your entry submission

Here, you can find on overview of the animago AWARD 2009 categories. The final closing date is July 31, 2009 (mailing date). Please send your entries as soon as possible.

Categories of this year:

Submission of material
Please note that the animago organizers will not pay any customs fees, duties, tarriffs, or mail charges incurred by your submission. Submitted materials cannot be returned. Submitters located outside of Germany need to attach a customs label bearing the words "Educational material with no commercial value" or (in German) "Voruebergehende Verwendung. Nur für kulturelle Zwecke, Sendung hat keinen Handelswert".

CATEGORY: STILL
A Still is defined as a picture that has been created predominantly using 3D software. However, a mixture with real elements is allowed as well as touch ups using 2D paint software. The focus is on the modelling of objects, how materials have been used, and how the lighting and perspective have been implemented considering the picture’s message. The use of new technologies and the submission’s originality will also be evaluated.

Submission requirements:
  • Naming convention: please use the entry number as the file name (e.g. 0024.jpg)
  • File format JPG 100%
  • Resolution: 2480 x 2480 pixels maximum, respectively; 720 x 576 pixels minimum, 24 bit color
  • Submissions must be sent via E-mail to submit@animago.com, indicating the submission number and production title, which is provided by our online-registration-system

CATEGORY: FILM
This category serves as a reservoir for films that have been created predominantly using 3D software, as well as compositings. The focus is on how authentic and convincing 3D objects, lighting and camera angles are. However, the dramaturgy, editing and story will also be evaluated by the jury, taking the submission type (e.g. architecture, art, advertising/commercials) into consideration.
Films are considered Compositings and judged accordingly if they combine multiple layers of video, computer generated animation, drawings and/or images to create an entity. The jury lays stress on various technical criteria (e.g. quality of masking, colour correction/colour grading, usage of digital effects et cetera), taking into account the category the respective work has been submitted to.

Submission requirements:
  • Media and formats: CD, DVD and BetaSP. All submissions must be PAL standard.
  • Please send your entry in AVI, Quicktime, do not use Video CD or Video DVD.
  • Resolution: 720 x 576 pixels, 25 frames per second
  • Only standard Microsoft or Apple Quicktime codecs, MPEG1 & 2 as well as Intel Indeo or Standard Divx are allowed. No other codecs (e.g. Hardware-related) will be accepted.
  • In addition to the film itself, a representative still is required. It will be published in the special animago issue of DIGITAL PRODUCTION magazine, and will be used on the animago website. The still needs to have a minimum resolution of 720 x 576 pixels, and may not exceed a maximum resolution of 2480 x 2480 pixels. The picture needs to be stored as a JPG 100% file and has to be sent via E-mail to submit@animago.com, indicating the submission ID and production title. Naming convention: please use the entry number as file name (e.g. 0024.jpg)

CATEGORY: INTERACTIVE
The Interactive category is designed for submissions that allow the user to control how and in which order information is presented to him. Submissions of this kind may consist of 3D, 2D, video and still picture elements. When evaluating the submission, the jury focusses on the overall concept, the clarity of the structure and its graphical conversion. Examples for submissions that fit into this category are interactive visualizations as well as productions created for various player programs or plug-ins (e.g. Flash, Director).

If you submit a DVD-Design, for example, not the DVD content itself is being judged but the menus, their linking to the film and the target audience. Here, too, the clarity of the structure matters, and so do the transitions between different menus. The Elements used do not necessarily have to be created with 3D software, and can be combined at will.

The production has to be completly submitted with the required player programs or plug-ins, and needs to run on Windows or Apple systems. Merely providing a link pointing to a website where the interactive application can be seen will not be considered a submission!

In addition to the interactive application itself, a self-running presentation is required for the animago ceremony. This presentation should be useable for demonstration purposes and explain how the application works. The presentation has to comply with the following specifications:
