Meet Metropolis Hall, the new home of the animago 2012
Since opening in October 2008, the Metropolis Hall has been the location for large-scale professional events, such as award ceremonies, conferences, congresses and TV and show productions in Babelsberg Media City. The location’s name recalls Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis”, a film that takes place in a futuristic megacity and was shot in 1926 at Babelsberg Film Studios. The hall at Babelsberg Media City offers over 4,000 square metres of event space and stands at the foot of the Volcano Arena, which was built in 1998 and is lit up in fiery red in the evenings. In other words, the winners of this year’s animago AWARDs will receive their awards against the backdrop of a major historical film location. Indeed, the award ceremony on the evening of 25 October is the highlight of the two-day industry gathering. ..

The change of location means that the animago is growing in size and importance; and this means that it can now open its doors to the general public and to film and media-savvy individuals beyond its expert audience. Visitors can expect a high-end programme schedule consisting of a conference and a free tradeshow. The thematic focus will be on animation/VFX, stereo-3D, game/interactive and postproduction and will be complemented by, among other things, a recruiting programme and discussion panels on different themes and trends.

Friedhelm Schatz, managing director of the Filmpark Babelsberg on the animago event and its new location:

"We are proud to be able to offer the animago AWARD a new home here in the Metropolis Hall at the Babelsberg Film Park. For the past 20 years, the Film Park has been attracting small and large-scale events, and today it is the platform at in the Media City for high-end events and incentives. The Babelsberg Media City brings together 100 years of film tradition with innovative media know-how to create a unique collection of specialists, artists and companies.

From “special effects” to “special events” – this is indeed an exciting field of unexamined synergies. And it offers unbelievable and inexhaustible potential for new types of incentives and events – and, of course, also for entertainment par excellence! I’m looking forward to the mutual exchange of ideas, to inspiring discussions and an exciting award show!”
